Cairns, Australia

Cairns is one of Australia’s hottest vacation destinations. Cairns boasts three of Australia’s great natural wonders. Just offshore, immense bastions of living coral form the Great Barrier Reef. Sixteen miles of superb beaches stretch to the north of the city - the famed Marlin Coast. And inland lays the immense Daintree National Park. Cairns itself basks in tropical sunshine, balmy breezes waft in from Trinity Bay. The city’s graceful, tree-lined esplanade was once the gateway to the gold fields of North Queensland.

Friday 25 October
Darwin, Australia

Today you will arrive into Darwin, the capital of the “Top End”, where you will disembark. You will then be picked up for an introductory tour of Darwin. Your coach will take you around all the highlights of Darwin with a tour at the Royal Flying Doctor Service facility. You’ll enjoy lunch on Stokes Hill Wharf before being dropped off at your hotel for check-in.

Saturday 26 October
Today enjoy a free day to explore Darwin at your own pace. There is plenty to do and see around town including crocodile encounters, sunset cruises and unique WWII history. Or simply relax, recharge the batteries and enjoy the holiday atmosphere.

Sunday 27 October
This morning begin your overnight Kakadu and East Alligator River tour. Depart Darwin and travel along the Arnhem Highway, passing major river systems and wetland regions, into Kakadu National Park. Located 257 kilometres east of Darwin, the national park covers 20,000 square kilometres of landscape varying from rocky escarpment that is home to historic Aboriginal rock art dating back thousands of years, to the floodplains that are abundant with wildlife. Visit Warradjan Cultural Centre to view the informative displays depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu. Join your local guide on a cruise of Yellow Water Billabong Cruise. Search for saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of birdlife for which this region is renowned. After lunch (included), stop at Nourlangie, where your Driver Guide will lead you on a walk to view the rock art galleries.

Monday 28 October
This morning you’ll head off with your Driver Guide to explore the World Heritage Area of Ubirr, where you’ll climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries, believed to be 20,000 years old, to the lookout for the view over the surrounding wetlands. Join the Guluyambi Cruise along the East Alligator River. An Aboriginal guide will provide an insight into their culture, including local mythology, the river’s abundant food chain, as well as bush survival skills. With special permission of the local people, you are able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Visit the Bowali Visitor Centre before returning to Darwin.

Visit Mindil Beach Markets and breathe in crisp ocean air, smell aromas of foods from all over the world and dine on the beach in front of a magical sunset.

Today you will be transferred to the Darwin Train Station where you will board The Ghan and travel by rail to Adelaide in your chosen service of travel. Prepare for a journey of comfort, relaxation and a touch of adventure, as the legendary Ghan takes you deep into the heart of Australia. This afternoon you’ll be making a stop in Katherine, home of the stunning Katherine Gorge and rich in Indigenous history.

This morning you will make your way to the world famous wine region of the Barossa Valley steeped in history and German heritage, swathed in rolling landscapes of vines, orchards, pasture and bushland and full of great characters. This afternoon discover the rich bounty of the Adelaide Hills with its charming villages, so close to the city. Explore the enchanting town of historic Hahndorf with its unique Bavarian ambiance.
