This peaceful town was the site of fierce fighting during World War II. Today, it’s a peaceful retreat offering the vacationer plenty of time to relax and connect with nature. Beyond the city you’ll find a tropical rainforest full of birds of paradise and a laid-back ease worth discovering.

Cairns, Australia

Cairns is one of Australia’s hottest vacation destinations. Cairns boasts three of Australia’s great natural wonders. Just offshore, immense bastions of living coral form the Great Barrier Reef. Sixteen miles of superb beaches stretch to the north of the city - the famed Marlin Coast. And inland lays the immense Daintree National Park. Cairns itself basks in tropical sunshine, balmy breezes waft in from Trinity Bay. The city’s graceful, tree-lined esplanade was once the gateway to the gold fields of North Queensland.

Darwin, Australia

This morning you will arrive into Darwin and disembark. Join your fellow passengers on an introductory tour of Darwin including a tour at the Royal Flying Doctor Service facility. You’ll enjoy lunch on Stokes Hill Wharf before being dropped off at your hotel for check-in.

Monday 14 October
Today you will have the choice of either a full day Litchfield National Park Waterfalls tour OR a Kakadu National Park tour.

Litchfield National Park
Boarding early for the drive to Litchfield National Park you will be entertained by your Driver Guide with tales both tall and true of the history of Australia’s longest highway. The gorgeous, historical town of Batchelor is the gateway to Litchfield National Park. Today, Batchelor’s townsfolk love to host visitors to Litchfield National Park and it’s here that you’ll enjoy morning tea (own expense) at one of their local cafés. View the termite mounds found at Litchfield National Park and the spectacular double waterfall of Florence Falls from a high vantage point, before making your way down the stairs to take a dip in the gorgeous plunge pool. One of the three major waterfalls along the western face of the Tabletop Range is Tolmer Falls. Marvel at the water cascading down into the deep waterhole at the base of the falls, home to several colonies of rare ghost bats and orange horseshoe bats. Included in your tour is lunch at the Litchfield Café. Relax, enjoy the company of your fellow travellers and if you’re ready for another swim, Wangi Falls is the most accessible of rock pools and is a perfect spot to take another dip.

Kakadu National Park
Today rise early for your Kakadu National Park tour. Begin your day by travelling on one of the longest roads in Australia, the Stuart Highway. Kakadu National Park covers an area of more than 19,800 square kilometres, is World Heritage listed and is the largest National Park in Australia. The combination of mangrove fringed coastal areas, flood plains, open woodland and forest habitats, make Kakadu one of the most diverse landscapes you will ever experience. Be mesmerised as you wander the Nourlangie rock art site. The 1.5km walk around the base of the rock, led by your Driver Guide, will give you the opportunity to see many different forms of Aboriginal rock art paintings. After lunch (included) join your local guide for a cruise on the Yellow Water Billabong. The picturesque yellow waters are home to thousands of saltwater crocodiles and up to 60 species of colourful birdlife.The Bininj people are the traditional custodians of Kakadu National Park and now we visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre to introduce you to their way of life. Travel back to Darwin late this evening after a full and eventful day exploring Australia’s largest National Park.

Wednesday 16 October
Today you will be transferred to the Darwin Train Station where you will board The Ghan and travel by rail to Adelaide in your chosen service of travel. Prepare for a journey of comfort, relaxation and a touch of adventure, as the legendary Ghan takes you deep into the heart of Australia. This afternoon you’ll be making a stop in Katherine, home of the stunning Katherine Gorge and rich in Indigenous history.
