We have awoken this morning to the news that Princess Cruises has temporarily paused ship operations worldwide for 60 days effective immediately through 12 May 2020.

Update #6 – Princess Cruises as at 14.22pm ACST 13.3.20 – Guests On Board

For clients that are cruising from Sydney to Adelaide & Sydney to Fremantle on Sea Princess (10 March 2020)

We are writing to clarify the Princess Cruises policy for refunds and Future Cruise Credits for guests currently onboard.

It has been confirmed for those guests that you are tier 1 which provides the following:

Your current Cruise from Sydney to Sydney – 10 March to 17 March 2020 (this is effectively no charge for this cruise)

In addition to the following:-

Update #5 – Princess Cruises as at 12.51pm ACST 13 March 2020

We have just been advised from our clients onboard the ship that some clients are choosing to disembark in Hobart and will then need additional arrangements such as flights and accommodation to meet up with existing arrangements.  One of our team will be calling you shortly regarding this and we will prioritise guests due to disembark in Adelaide on Monday 16 March 2020 and travel by Indian Pacific from Adelaide to Sydney and we understand that these fights from Hobart to Adelaide may not be covered by Princess Cruises.

Update #4 – Princess Cruises as at 12.22pm ACST 13 March 2020

For clients that are cruising from Sydney to Adelaide & Sydney to Fremantle on Sea Princess (10 March 2020)

For our valued guests currently aboard Sea Princess we can advise that we have not forgotten about you and we are currently working on your options for your onward arrangements.

Further to our earlier advice Princess Cruises may reimburse you for reasonable out of pocket expenses as a result of this cancellation and you will receive your refund and future cruise credit in line with Princess Cruises policy (see earlier updates for details).

Guests: Cruise Sydney to Adelaide

We recognise that some guests may miss their forward arrangements as a result of the re-routing to Sydney particularly those guests who were disembarking in Adelaide on Monday 16 March 2020.  For those guests we advise you to contact your travel insurance provider or Princess Cruises to seek a claim or reimbursement.

Guests: Cruise Sydney to Perth

For those guests who were cruising from Sydney to Perth we advise that we will have alternative suggestions for you to meet your land arrangements in Perth for your consideration later today and as advise earlier the costs of these arrangements such as flights and any additional accommodation etc may again be reimbursed by Princess Cruises.

We have just been advised by Princess Cruises that your current cruise that was due to depart Darwin on 28 March 2020 will now be covered by tier 2 (highlighted in green) of the below policy:

We want to keep you informed in light of Princess Cruises pausing global ship operations for 60 days effective immediately through May 12, 2020, which affects your travel plans. Please keep visiting this page or our Facebook page for ongoing updates as we receive them.

Our team is working hard to contact you all to rearrange your holiday plans prioritising guests currently travelling or those due to travel over the coming days who have the most urgent requirements and need flights and accommodation to meet their onward arrangements.

There will be hold times on our phone line. We would like to reassure you that if you are travelling with us, we will be in contact with you. We acknowledge that long wait times for answers may result in making arrangements yourself or with assistance from Princess Cruises on board. For clients that are cruising from Sydney to Adelaide or Sydney to Fremantle on Sea Princess (10 March)

Update #1 - 8:30 AM 13 March 2020

Princess Cruises statement is as follows: 

“Recognising our responsibility to our guests, our crew and the global community, and after very serious consideration of the evolving COVID-19 situation, Princess Cruises has made the difficult decision to voluntarily and temporarily pause our global ship operations for 60 days, effective immediately through May 12, 2020”.

We understand that the options that are available can be set out as follows:-

  1. Clients that are currently onboard cruises that will end in the next 5 days will continue to sail as expected either to the end of their cruise OR if their cruise ended on or after 17 March 2020 the guests will disembark at the most convenient location (which for the guests on board C008) this will be in Adelaide or Sydney in the coming days.  For guests with onward travel arrangements we ask that you contact us via email to make additional arrangements that may be required to be made to meet up with onward land arrangements (such as train, flights or accommodation arrangements).
  2. For clients that have bookings through to 11 May 2020 including those but not limited to the following cruises we advise the following:
    • Adelaide - Darwin – 16 March 20 – Land arrangements are continuing unchanged but clients will need arrangements to commence in Adelaide/Darwin including the Ghan with choice of 100% refund of the cruise only + 100% Future Cruise Credit OR 225% Future Cruise Credit
    • Perth - Sydney – 21 March 20 – Land arrangements are continuing unchanged in Perth including the Indian Pacific with choice of 100% refund of the cruise only + 100% Future Cruise Credit OR 225% Future Cruise Credit
    • Darwin - Sydney - 28 March 20 – Land arrangements are continuing unchanged in Darwin including the Ghan with choice of 100% refund of the cruise only + 50% Future Cruise Credit OR 175% Future Cruise Credit

It is ultimately a decision for you to choose the best option for you and the options are summarised as follows:

The Future Cruise credit options applies to all guests who had bookings from 4 February 2020 and can be used on any voyage through 1 May 2022.

All guests will receive this email shortly from Princess advising you of this information.

We expect long wait times with Princess Cruises and our call centre to handle the volume of calls and we request that you wait until we contact you or follow the links in the email from Princess that you will receive shortly – this will be the best and quickest option for you. Once you choose your option, we suggest that you email us at holidays@holidaysofaustralia.com.au and advise us in writing. Please remember when making your decision, your other components are not affected by the Princess changes and as we understand are currently non-refundable and non-changeable such as the Ghan or Indian Pacific/ accommodation/touring.

We will be prioritising guests currently travelling or those due to travel over the coming days who have the most urgent requirements and need flights and accommodation to meet their onward arrangements.

As stated above all arrangements other than the cruise remain unchanged and the offer by Princess Cruises to offer either a 100% refund (which should cover any additional arrangements) plus a Future Cruise Credit for your next cruise.

OR

Should you choose the option of a Future Cruise Credit Option (higher value) you will receive 225% of the value of your cruise (in the case of cruises 13-26 March).  Effectively the very worst scenario is a full refund for your cruise plus a 100% future cruise credit or a future cruise credit to the value of 225% of your current cruise (in the case of cruises  13-26 March) which is an incredibly generous offer made by Princess Cruises and should provide you with some comfort to enjoy your onward land arrangements in Australia and cruise again in the future for free with your future cruise credit.
