Opening in 1988 the Hall of Fame has provided over 1 million interstate & international visitors. Qantas Founders Museum

A must for anyone to visit, the world-class Qantas Founder’s Museum eloquently tells a story in its own unique way through interpretive displays, interactive exhibits & original artifacts from the Qantas Aircraft collection including 5 of the world’s most famous aircrafts. After watching the Luminescent Longreach Show grab something to eat at the award-winning McGuinness Restaurant. 


Just a couple of hours from Longreach is the dinosaur capital of Australia…. Winton in Central West Queensland! This is the home to the amazing Waltzing Matilda Centre and to the world’s only recorded evidence of a dinosaur stampede – the Dinosaur Stampede at Lark Quarry Conservation Park. More than 95 million years old, there are 3,300 stampeding footprints immortalised in stone and protected 110km south-west of Winton. This is an iconic National Monument not to be missed.

Waltzing Matilda Centre 

Winton’s Waltzing Matilda Centre tells the amazing story for a song that lives in the hearts of all Australians. The first museum in the world dedicated to a song, the new Waltzing Matilda Centre boasts state of the art interpretation, telling the story of Waltzing Matilda. The exhibition space tells the story of WW1 with phenomenal art galleries on display travelling through the history of the Winton Shire and the birth of Qantas. After the exhibition enjoy the finest coffee in town at Tuckerbox Café. 

Australian Age of Dinosaurs 

A working dinosaur museum with the most productive Fossil Preparation Laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s located on 1,800 hectares of spectacular mesa plateau with vast scenery, and wildlife. The museum houses the largest collection of unique Australian Dinosaur Fossils and they’re here for everyone to see! The inspiring and educational tours take all visitors to the heart of the museum including the fossil preparation laboratory, the collection room and the dinosaur canyon. Apart from dinosaurs, the Museum offers amazing views overlooking the black soil plains, the Cretaceous Café and a Museum Shop. 


Arno’s Wall

A modern wonder of art and architecture, Arno Grotjahn's wall contains almost every household item you can imagine and more. The walls reach two metres high and extend for at least 70 metres. They are constructed of concrete and rock brought from Arno's opal mine at Opalton and studded with rusted lawnmower parts, boat propellers, vintage typewriters and sewing machines and even a couple of complete motorbikes. Arno was born in 1930 and spent his youth as a merchant seaman travelling the world. He immigrated to Australia from Germany some 30 years ago and spends his time in and around Winton opal mining.


Musical Fence

On 20th July 2003 local and visiting artists gathered in Winton to perform in a truly unique composition…. The world premiere of The Musical Fence. The Musical Fence, designed by percussionist and composer Graeme Leak, is a wire fence that can be played as a musical instrument, and it is the first permanent musical fence installation in the world. The Musical Fence is situated behind the Diamantina Heritage Truck and Machinery Museum near the Industrial Estate. It is free to use and is there for every visitor in Winton to enjoy.
