Feel like: French coastal escape

Replace with: Margaret River / Busselton

With world-renowned cellar doors and sweeping vineyard views at your fingertips, boutique shopping, stunning beaches, beautiful sunshine and the choice of eating crepes or a freshly baked croissant for breakfast you could be forgiven in to thinking you were in the middle of a small French country town. Whilst this could easily be the case you could also be in the famous Margaret River and Busselton region, just 234 kilometres south of Perth.

Former Parisians themselves, Roselyne and Jean-Marie came to open Fre-Jac Bakery in Vasse, a suburb of Busselton, back in 2006. Offering hand crafted French pastries and cakes made from both local and French-imported ingredients for that authentic experience and as you can imagine have already established some very loyal followers. Bistro Breton, also in Busselton, offers a selection of both savoury and sweet crepes, including the traditional La Suzette, and other bistro cuisine and French style breakfast options such as Pain Perdu – French toast with fresh strawberries, pistachios, coulis and white chocolate shavings. Heaven. Flutes Restaurant at the Brookland Valley Winery is lead by executive chef Francois Morvan who will give you the nice problem of deliberating what to order from the simple house baked baguette with French butter, duck liver parfait or the daily selection of Petit Desserts. The innovative and seasonal menu changes to adapt with the best local produce available and there is even a children’s menu if you have any little ones in tow. No trip to France is complete without a culinary feast for the senses so this is our input towards not missing this vital part.

Fig Tree Lane in Busselton consists of a selection of boutiques, specialty shops and cafes for the all important holiday shopping fix, named after the old Fig Tree which takes pride of place at the Kent Street entrance to the lane.

Head to the Farmers Markets in Margaret River on a Saturday morning for fresh seasonal foods directly from the local farmers, local artisan produce, incredible coffee and cheeses to rival even the finest French equivalents.
