LAKE EYRE

Lake Eyre, officially known as Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre, is the largest salt lake in Australia, filling only once every eight years on average. It was formed some 200 million years ago with the seemingly endless pink salt crystals glistening under the sun captivating travellers year upon year. Traditionally, the best time to visit Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre National Park is between April and October as there is more likely water during the cooler months. Currently, the lake is full making for a vast inland sea and phenomenon for many to witness*, and the best way to see it? By plane of course! 


FLINDERS RANGES

Experience the splendour and sheer vastness of the ancient Flinders Ranges from above on a scenic flight as you view South Australia’s largest mountain range. Not to mention the natural amphitheatre that is Wilpena Pound, or Ikara, forming part of the park’s stunning centrepiece. It is the ancient land of the Adnyamathanha people, who still reside here today, being of enormous cultural and historical significance. 


MARREE MAN

Best viewed from the air, the Marree Man’s origins, or creator, remains a mystery still to this day. Discovered in 1998 by a pilot flying over, the artwork which is etched into the earth depicts a hunter holding a stick like object. It was subsequently named after the nearby outback town of Marree. Measuring 3.5 kilometres from top to bottom, the geoglyph can even by seen via satellite and has enjoyed a restoration over recent years, designed to preserve the artwork and even enhance its lines via a vegetation plan that will turn them green. 


GOYDER LAGOON

The beautiful flood plains of Goyder Lagoon Channel Country are located in the north-eastern corner of South Australia, fed by the Diamantina River. From the air, the Georgina (Eyre Creek) is also visible and together with the Diamantina, the waterways are two of the three main rivers that form a catchment in Goyder Lagoon which flows into Lake Eyre. A stunning sight from above, the expansive floodplains can be seen in all their beauty in addition to the renowned Simpson Desert and Sturt Stony Desert.  


BIRDSVILLE

This iconic outback town is actually in southern rural Queensland and is home to the famous and award-winning Birdsville Hotel. Being one of the most remote towns in the world, Birdsville is not your everyday destination, but rather a town that not only embraces its history but also continues to revitalise. The Birdsville Hotel is an absolute must-do here, originally built in 1884, the sandstone pub has recently undergone a makeover, and continues to draw travellers in to enjoy the welcoming hospitality on the edge of the Simpson Desert.
