Going on your next holiday is always an exciting time, but the one thing that bogs us down is the packing! It’s often tedious and stressful, but it really doesn’t have to be. Who better to turn to for tips than seasoned travellers who have learned from packing fails and successes? Get ready to pack like a pro and make your journey smoother and more enjoyable than ever before!
Hannah – Packing Cubes
Packing cubes have been an absolute life saver and complete game changer for me when travelling! Packing cubes help to compress and separate your clothing whilst keeping everything neat and organised. Gone are the days of rummaging through my bag in search of a specific item or outfit. With packing cubes, I can easily find what I need, and I know exactly where I put it. No more messy piles of clothes or chaotic suitcases! You can usually find packing cubes in Kmart or Target or online through Amazon.
Lorraine – Weather Appropriate Clothes
I always check weather prior to packing but that isn’t always reliable …. So, I do like to pack for all weather occasions. I always pack an umbrella and light-weight rain jacket (just in case), and a variety of shoes. I like to ensure that I have heels for evenings, hiking boots for walking (shore excursions) and thongs for the pool. Bathers are mandatory as is a hat and sunscreen. I also love that I can unpack once on a cruise and live out of a wardrobe, instead of a suitcase.
Cos – Pack Light & Roll
Packing light is a no brainer for me when travelling! I like to roll my clothes instead of folding as it doesn’t take up as much space in my luggage (it also means I have room to buy things when away that will fit in my bag). When cruising I prefer to unpack everything before setting sail in case, I get seasick! That way, in the off chance I am sick I’m not rummaging through my things to find a fresh pair of clothes.
Dani – Lists & Hacks!
As a seasoned traveller, I've learned the art of efficient packing. First off, I always create a detailed packing list beforehand, and save it in my Google drive for future trips. To keep my luggage organised, I pack a spare calico bag for my dirty laundry, ensuring it stays separate from my clean clothes. I've also mastered the shoe game by placing them in bags to prevent any dirt from transferring onto my clothes. No more worrying about scuff marks! Plus, I've said goodbye to ironing woes by packing clothes that don't need it, like wrinkle-resistant fabrics.
Allanha – All the Essentials
Packing for your destination is the key to enjoying every moment on your cruise! Here’s a list of tips I usually follow before sailing away.
- Pack for cruise dress codes/themed nights.
- Pack your carryon bag wisely (don’t overpack so you can go shopping!).
- Bring a beach bag! Perfect for days by the pool or coastal offshore excursions
- Don’t forget your photo ID’s, passports, and other necessary documentation.
- Pack your headphones & a book you’ve been meaning to read (perfect for multiple days at sea).
- Check your luggage allowance (varies for each cruise line).
- Check what laundry facilities your ship offers & pack accordingly.
- Make sure you check what you’re NOT allowed to bring onboard.
Margot – Download the Cruise Line App!
A helpful tip when cruising is to download your chose cruise lines app! By downloading the app, you are kept up to date with all onboard activities, events & entertainment whilst cruising. I’d hate to miss a cocktail experience, so downloading the app before travelling ensures a seamless trip at sea!
Terry – Be Prepared for all Occasions!
Preparing for your cruise adventure begins with smart packing! Here's a compilation of tried-and-true tips I always adhere to before boarding my cruise!
- Be Prepared for All Weather: Most cruises are in the sunshine, but you never know what weather you might get at sea.
- Hard Copies: these days we do most things digitally, but it never hurts to have a hard copy backup of your travel docs, especially if you are travelling internationally and out of signal.
- SPF: Pack sunscreen! Catching a tan is great…. Catching a burn, not so much.
- Sea Sickness: You never know when the motion of the ocean will create a motion in your belly. Be sure to prepare & pack medications & remedies for sea sickness before boarding your cruise!
Carly – Universal Adapters!
Depending on the destination you’re cruising to and the cruise ship you’re on, power points may vary! It’s always wise to research beforehand to see if you need a universal adapter or a standard Aussie adapter.
