The Indian Pacific is not just a train, it’s a 4,352 kilometre, world-famous construction achievement linking Perth and Sydney, ocean to ocean. In 2020, it also celebrates a 50 year legacy of transcontinental crossings.

Step onboard and you are suspended in time in a luxuriously appointed silver chariot while traversing a nation’s proud history and falling in love with its awe-inspiring landscape.

Depending on the season, you could glide through pockets of snow, and a desert bigger than most European countries. You pass through some of the biggest sheep stations in the world and past tiny pioneer towns.

You’ll love the famous green and gold of Australia’s wheat belts, spotting brumbies, kangaroos and emus through stunted mallee.

You feel like a pioneer, yet you indulge in opulent hospitality, exquisite dining, comfortable cabins and lively lounges while the Indian Pacific effortlessly climbs the rugged Blue Mountains and skirts the majestic Flinders Ranges rising from ancient rock-scarred land. It pushes aside colourful carpets of wildflowers that seem to spread forever.

Drink in hand you marvel at sunsets, spot flocks of thousands of corellas fossicking for seed, and find beauty in stark salt bush and red, sunparched sands.

You tick the bucket list as you ride the Nullarbor, beautiful in its raw starkness and home to the longest straight track in the world; 478 kilometres of steel ribbons that melt to one at the horizon.

During off train excursions you’ll venture further into the Blue Mountains, Broken Hill, Adelaide, Cook and Rawlinna. Kalgoorlie also features on east bound journeys. Kalgoorlie-Boulder is home to the world’s largest single open cut mining operation and here you can experience Paddy Hannan’s Ounce of Luck tour. Discover the beauty of the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains via the scenic walkways and cable car and enjoy tea and coffee around roaring bonfires at Rawlinna (weather permitting). Tour the picturesque city of Adelaide and surrounds to discover it’s many favourite locations including Adelaide Oval, Adelaide Central Markets, the stunning town of Hahndorf and world-renowned Barossa Valley. The historical mining town of Broken Hill offers further unique experiences such as The Main Drag Show, Miners Memorial and Trade Hall and the Pro Hart Gallery.

Is it any wonder the Indian Pacific is one of the truly great rail crossings in the world?
