Looking for a holiday like nothing you’ve experienced before? An immersive experience into the captivating environment that surrounds you, with a footprint admired by nature, is the must have Sal Salis experience. Situated in the dunes of the ruggedly spectacular Cape Range National Park, on the North West Cape of Western Australia, lies this incredible and exclusive beach safari camp ready to recharge your soul. Overlooking the vibrant Ningaloo Reef, home to colourful corals and a thriving marine life, this unique place has to be one of Australia’s best kept secrets.

World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef is only ten metres offshore and is regarded as one of the best places in the world to swim with the world’s largest fish, the Whale Shark, as these gentle giants migrate through here every year. Humpback Whales also make an appearance here from August to October with an opportunity to swim with these majestic creatures as an add on experience.

The eco-friendly credentials of Sal Salis are nothing short of impressive with the entire camp blending into its surroundings, adhering to strict principles of minimal impact and sustainability. Power is solar-generated with the main lodge offering limited access to 220v power points and in true remote style escape there is no internet or mobile phone connectivity. Instead the most important recharge is yourself. Hot water is provided by gas and guests are allocated 20 litres per day for showering and washing with bathroom amenities also eco-friendly only to assist with conservation. Air-conditioning is provided by Mother Nature with all tents ocean facing, allowing a natural flow of air, wildlife and calming ocean sounds. Sal Salis is quite literally a harmonious co-existence with nature with each of its guests playing a pivotal role.

Accommodation

Fourteen exclusive ocean facing Wilderness tents are available for a truly unique and personal experience. Each tent boasts comfortable handmade jarrah beds (both twin and double configurations) fitted with the most luxurious 100% cotton sheets making for a wonderful night’s sleep as you drift off to the sounds of the ocean. They also feature eco en-suites complete with a ‘Nature Loo’ (which contrary to what the name may suggest, it is named only such due to it being made from compostable material!), delicious locally sourced food, a generous self-serve bar and impeccable service.

For the epitome of laid-back luxury there is one Honeymoon Tent situated away from the camp for secluded privacy and its own private beach access. It has a super-luxurious four-poster king bed and when night falls, the stars can be seen from the double hammock on the spacious deck.

Dining

On arrival to the camp guests are welcomed at the main lodge which becomes the focal point for the all-inclusive dining each day throughout the stay. From sundowners and canapes at sunset as you go over the following days activities, to a hot and cold breakfast menu, lunch and a sumptuous three-course dinner featuring seasonal, local produce and hints of bush food and local, fresh fish. The evening meal is enjoyed by solar candlelight and lanterns, paired with Western Australian wines alongside other regional spirits and a wide selection of soft drinks and juices. The evening sky is adorned with stars and is known to be one of the best places to view the Milky Way; this coupled with the twinkling camp lights and sounds of the ocean proposes a perfect night.

Included Experiences

Each day is taken care of thanks to the camp’s guides who map out guided daily activities with the weather, tide and guest interests taken into account. Offering both a morning and afternoon encounter, the focus remains with the reef and pristine natural surroundings. Activities range from  guided snorkelling along the Ningaloo Coast at places such as Turquoise Bay, Oyster Stacks and Lakeside, to guided walks within the Cape Range National Park at Mandu Mandu Gorge and Yardie Creek.

Optional tours (additional cost)

With the coral reef within swimming distance of the beach, kayaking and snorkelling are a perfect way to explore the wealth of marine life and numerous picturesque beaches offer stunning drift snorkels and sheltered bays. Guided kayak-snorkels on the reef take guests further offshore to snorkel some of the deeper lagoons. The lagoons in the Reef are some of the best snorkelling spots and a great way to meet the residents such as schools of fish, reef sharks, smaller rays and a multitude of other species.

Whale Shark swims and Humpback Whale swims are available seasonally for a true bucket list experience with both being very popular and need to be pre-booked as the boats do fill up months in advance.

Guided bush walks are also available in the National Park with Mandu Mandu Gorge, a journey of geological and Aboriginal history, and Yardie Creek Gorge, home to spectacular limestone cliffs, wildlife and spectacular views, being the two standout walks.

From sunset sundowners, clear starry night skies, falling asleep to the sounds and views of the ocean, to the blissful seclusion, unspoilt spectacular surroundings and eco-friendly footprint, this isn’t just a holiday it’s a completely unforgettable, unplugged, once in a lifetime Sal Salis experience.
