As we come to the end of 2021, and come closer to 2022, the new words and phrases of the last two years come to mind such as social distancing, quarantine and now the latest phrase trend in the travel industry: travel bubble. With certain international borders set to open in 2022, it begs the question for many Australians of ‘where will I holiday next?’ We look at our top 10 places to travel to around Australia in 2022, including some much awaited international options too! Although, as we are now accustomed, this could all very well change in a flash, but let’s hope not.

Western Australia

The somewhat ‘unreachable’ state is scheduled to open early February 2022, with Broome certainly being at the top of many travellers list with June, July and August already heavily booked. The Kimberley region has also seen a surge in domestic travellers as this absolutely stunning part of Australia takes the breath away of everybody who visits’.

Northern Territory

Being on many Australian’s bucket lists as a must-do holiday, this has already come to fruition for numerous travellers throughout 2021 seizing the opportunity to experience the magical Red Centre and tropical Top End. Our exclusive Uluru charter getaway weekends to Uluru were hugely popular throughout the last 12 months, offering a direct flight option to Uluru and a pinch-me weekend experience. There will be many more charters scheduled for 2022 including Uluru, Alice Springs, Kings Canyon and Darwin. Plus, the current Summer Sale campaign brings savings of up to $1000 on all NT holidays for travel by 31 March 2022.

Fiji

This much-loved holiday destination by many Aussies has been open for business since 1 December 2021 to vaccinated Australians, bringing some very welcome news. Enjoy relaxing days by the pool, cultural experiences and the warm and friendly hospitality of its beautiful people. You do need to test 72 hours prior to departure and 2 days after your arrival in Fiji; from then you can explore the designated Safe Travel Area providing you receive a negative test. Bula!

Singapore

Can we, can’t we? Almost but not quite! While borders did briefly open with Australia, the latest Covid variant has suspended the fully vaccinated travel corridor until further notice.  Hopefully the delights of this vibrant Asian destination are again not too far away and we’ll be sipping on a Singapore Sling, shopping up a storm and devouring chilli crab in no time!

Cradle Mountain, Tasmania

Pristine wilderness, glacial lakes, icy streams cascading down rugged mountains, captivating scenery teeming with wildlife and some of the freshest air you can take in. Cradle Mountain is one of Tasmania’s most visited natural wonders, nestled at the northern end of the World Heritage-listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and home to the iconic Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge. Explore the myriad of nature walks and hikes throughout the park, all at varying lengths and fitness levels, while you breathe in possibly some of the cleanest air in Australia. A stroll along the Enchanted Walk is a perfect start as you become completely mesmerised by your surroundings and for the serious hikers, the Overland Track, Australia’s premier alpine walk at 65 kilometres and six days of trekking. If you are travelling here during the colder months, prepare for a magical winter wonderland with ample warm clothes packed!

Japan

With high vaccination rates, Japan has continued the focus, following the Olympic Games, to proceed with caution. While Australian borders are yet to open to this spectacular country, many Aussies are awaiting the green light to immerse themselves in the superb cuisine, people, fun, tranquility and some of the best skiing slopes in the world.

Lord Howe Island

A relaxing, tropical island holiday that is technically ‘overseas’, yet still actually a domestic trip forming part of New South Wales. It’s home to some of the world’s best outdoor activities, natural beauty and biodiversity, making this World Heritage-listed island sanctuary the ultimate holiday escape. The island boasts a myriad of things to do and natural attractions to visit.

Kangaroo Island

When you mention ‘best experiences’ and South Australia in the same sentence, a resounding location often pops up, that being the stunning Kangaroo Island. And for very good reason. An intriguing ferry ride or short flight from the South Australian mainland begins the journey to this island sanctuary with over a third of the island consisting of protected nature reserves and the remainder, a perfect blend of unspoilt and rugged coastline, gourmet local artisan produce, abundant roaming wildlife, spectacular raw scenery at every turn and that unmistakable country air and hospitality. It’s also Australia’s most remote and undiscovered wine region, with around 18 wineries dotted about the island all producing high quality wines quickly becoming some of the world’s best. Get your skates on and discover, or even rediscover, this wilderness dream.

Palm Cove

Located in Far North Queensland, perfectly nestled between Cairns and Port Douglas, Palm Cove enjoys temperate weather year-round to make the most of the pristine white-sand beaches fringed by towering palm trees, an inviting turquoise ocean. With nearby vibrant coral reefs, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest a stone’s throw away, amazing alfresco dining and a lush landscape steeped in history, it’s the perfect getaway for 2022.

Great Ocean Road, Victoria

Stunning coastal towns, natural wellness, incredible landscapes and some of the best food you’ll eat.  It’s an iconic part of South East Australia and features on many people’s bucket list. The spectacular Australian National Heritage-listed Great Ocean Road stretches 243 kilometres, from Allansford to Torquay, and is home to the incredible Twelve Apostles - the prize of one of Australia’s most scenic drives – with the collection of limestone stacks emerging from the ocean carved out over millions of years. If you are ready to relax and really take a break from any sort of schedule in 2022, make sure you tick this region off.
