MONEY MATTERS

For any holiday planning a budget is paramount for a successful and stress-free trip away. Self-isolation, social distancing or quarantining at home is no different. Careful financial budgeting is required for day to day expenses like food, accommodation and activities in both scenarios to alleviate any unnecessary tension. Like being away on holidays check to make sure any ongoing payments for services you are not currently utilizing or don’t need can be put on hold.

ALONE TIME

This may sound unachievable in a home isolation experience but is equally as important, just like on a holiday when you are together day and night. This certainly will have its limitations but is still possible, whether it’s one person gardening and the other watching a movie or reading. Or in the case of working from home, this is even more important to have separate work time and space, if it allows.

COMPROMISE

Any good holiday requires compromise. Whether it’s just you and your partner or you have the kids in tow, it makes for a nicer experience by all. The same goes for inside the home. Consider everyone’s interests and even arrange a daily schedule to please all members of the household for a more harmonious and enjoyable environment.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

When we travel I make sure I have access to a morning coffee and breakfast to make for a good start to the day. The day is not as enjoyable when all you can think of is when will I come across a café, bakery or juice bar. Every member of the household may have different times they prefer to eat and when you are all together it is valuable to satisfy you hunger for the greater good of all those around!

TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

It’s an oldie but a goodie. Holidays can bring about unexpected setbacks and therefore challenges to overcome or fix. Isolation at home may also bring about certain challenges and working as a team is also imperative rather than trying to tackle things on your own.

EXPECTATIONS VERSUS AGREEMENTS

Don’t forget to go easy on each other. Being together 24/7 can be a lovely bonding time but to be a realist we can also get on each others nerves a little faster than usual! One of the best pieces of advice I have ever heard has been this: create agreements with those around you as opposed to your expectations of them to alleviate any unnecessary resentment.

You can do this.
