This evening you will be transferred to the Adelaide Parklands Terminal† to celebrate the start of your journey with the ‘Flavours of South Australia Welcome Dinner’. Afterwards board the Indian Pacific and travel to Perth in your chosen service. Watch as the barren expanse of the Nullarbor Plain slides by on this spectacular journey across Australia.

Friday 3 January
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast with expansive desert views, followed by a stop at the outback ghost town of Cook. A spectacular dinner under the stars awaits at Rawlinna (seasonal), the Nullarbor outpost that borders a ‘little’ sheep station of a mere 8,000 square kilometres.

Saturday 4 January
After a restful sleep, sit down for breakfast as the picturesque rolling hills of the Avon Valley pass you by. Arrive into by mid-afternoon and join your transfer from the train station to your accommodation where the rest of the day is at your leisure.

Sunday 5 January
Today’s great taster tour takes in Perth and Fremantle with various stops around these iconic cities. Starting in Perth, the tour takes in all major attractions of the revitalised Perth CBD, including the Western Australian Cricket Ground (WACA). Then on to Kings Park Botanical Gardens, where you have the opportunity to view wildflowers or take in the stunning views from the war memorial looking back over the city skyline. Continue through the affluent Western Suburbs of Perth, known as Millionaire’s Row before reaching Cottesloe Beach where the Indian Ocean sparkles. Travel on into historic Fremantle, viewing the impressive facades of this heritage listed city including a brief stop. Take a relaxing Swan River cruise back to Perth.

Monday 6 January
Today’s full day tour starts with a drive through the Swan Valley before arriving at New Norcia, home to Australia’s only Benedictine Abbey. A little piece of Spain comes alive in this town, full of history, art and architecture. Hear the local history before viewing the chapel and museum artefacts gifted to the monastery by Popes and Royalty of Spain. Visit the famous Benedictine Community with a guided tour of the town and main sites including the museum and art gallery where you will find extraordinary artefacts dating back to when New Norcia was an Aboriginal mission. Next move on to the Abbey Church; home to one of only two large Moser organs, originally crafted in Germany. This is followed by a visit to St Gertrude’s College, a grand gothic style building which was originally built as a girls boarding school and opened in 1908. Then visit a produce shop selling olive oil, fruit, wine, New Norcia nut cake and breads, before enjoying a fish and chips lunch and local breads and olive oil at the historic New Norcia Hotel. Then head on to the Western Wildflower Farm for a brief talk about how wildflowers are dried and exported. Continue on for an easy paced walk through the mystical Pinnacles Desert and see the Pinnacles from the lookout over the park. If time permits. make a visit to the Pinnacles Desert Discovery Centre. Return to Perth down the Indian Ocean drive.

Wednesday 8 January
This morning travel south from Perth driving through farmland with grazing cattle and passing by coastal towns. Arriving at Busselton, known as the gateway to the Margaret River Region stop for morning tea (own expense) at the iconic Busselton Jetty, the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere. Driving into the heart of the region, head to one of Margaret River’s oldest breweries for a gourmet platter lunch of local produce, with complimentary beer and cider tastings. Following lunch, continue south through the forest to an internationally renowned winery to taste some of their best award winning wines, whilst gaining some industry insight on wine production with the opportunity to purchase. Next it’s on to Mammoth Cave for a guided tour through this gothic cave with vast chambers that reveal fascinating information on the regions flora and fauna. Continuing south, through the Boranup Forest of enormous Karri Trees, reach the most fascinating part of the region Augusta. Here at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, marvel at the dividing point between the Southern and Indian Oceans, a rare phenomenon to view the meetings of the two Oceans. Afterwards head north to the township of Margaret River.

Located on Bass Strait, Burnie is Tasmania’s fourth-largest city and a major port. Inland lies the rainforest and wilderness of Cradle Mountain National Park, a World Heritage Site.

Kangaroo Island, South Australia
