The cool and casual capital of Queensland offers all the glitz and glam of a big city, without the big city airs. Located on the banks of the Brisbane River and surrounded by rolling hills, this urban oasis is certainly easy on the eyes. Whether you’re heading for the suburbs, centre or outskirts of town, you’ll be sure to encounter your fair share of first-ever experiences. Scale the legendary Story Bridge, take a sandboarding tour on North Stradbroke Island. Or if you’d like to connect with your inner Aussie, try your hand at sheep shearing at the Australian Woolshed.

Monday 17 February
Darwin, Australia

Closer to Indonesia than to any other Australian city, Darwin is the capital of the “Top End” - the remote, vast Northern Territory. Home to more than half of the territory’s population, the city reflects the rugged endurance and individualism required to survive the Outback. Darwin also boasts a colourful history to add to that heritage. During World War II the Japanese bombed the city and threatened invasion. In 1974, Cyclone Tracy cut a destructive swath through the region. In addition, man-eating crocodiles, tropical monsoons, searing heat and bush fires that burn for weeks are all part of everyday life.

Thursday 20 February
Bali (Benoa), Indonesia

For over a century, Bali has fascinated the Western imagination. The island embodies the very essence of the exotic and mysterious East. Steep hillsides of tropical green reveal terraced rice paddies while plantations of coffee, banana, cacao and fragrant spices line the roads. Monkeys haunt the grounds of a sacred temple in a forest, while traditional villages produce intricately stylized batik, superb jewellery and beautiful paintings. And Balinese dance, with its angular movements and rhythms, remains somehow stirring and shocking. Bali may be accessible, but it remains forever exotic.

Saturday 22 February
Port Hedland, Australia

The industrious town of Port Hedland, with its low-rise buildings and dark red hues, handles the iron-ore mined at Newman and exports more tonnage than any other Australian port. Nearby, the charming Dalgety House Museum, dating to 1903, is one of the few remaining examples of early-20th-century architecture. It tells the story of Port Hedland’s early development days. You’ll also find ample opportunity for shopping, lunching in cafes, and visits to the local arts centre and galleries offering local made crafts.
Onboard meals: breakfast, lunch & dinner

Sunday 23 February
Today you will be cruising at sea.

Monday 24 February
Geraldton, Australia

The capital of the Batavia Coast was founded in 1850 as a commercial port serving the Northampton lead mine some 30 miles to the north. While Geraldton remains one of Western Australia’s major ports, the city has become a magnet for vacationing Australians. Located between the Chapman and Greenough Rivers, Geraldton boasts a superb Mediterranean climate, scenic beauty and pristine beaches. Coronation Beach has become an international destination for windsurfers.
